In the Spring of 1955, interest grew among a group of young adults, active in district functions, around the purchase of a camp for the Greensboro District. For many years, Methodist groups had rented or borrowed facilities from other organizations. Prior to the division of the Greensboro District into two districts (High Point and Greensboro), the former YWCA Camp Nawakwa was purchased and utilized. As the division of districts occurred, the decision was made to sell Greensboro's share to High Point and purchase land which would be more centrally located and accessible. Purchase of camp property was negotiated with lumber interests and timber rights reserved. Timber rights were exercised and the property now belongs to Greensboro and the Northeast Districts (the geographical area which was later redrawn).
In this very complex society in which we find ourselves, there is a strong desire and need to spend more time close to nature. Therapeutic and spiritual values of such experiences are important to our well-being. At Camp GuilRock, great experiences can result. The Camp's facilities are tools to use in bringing joy, spirit, healing, knowledge, and fellowship among people, helping them to grow in love of God's creation and in new knowledge of His people.
